The Truth

Ok with the last post Nate's blog, I felt I really needed to clear some things up. Kieth Carmen and I are on unbelievable terms.  I did not want to bring this pic out but  I had to, and I think you will agree that the integrity of the picture speaks for it's self. This was us doing a free concert at a church many many years ago. Just look at the way carmen so lovingly has his arm around kieth. We were brothers!So please let all the ugly rumors stop and realize we are all in this together. In the words of my other famous friend Queen Latifah "U-N-I-T-Y that's a unity"

Blogjacked

My friend and PASTOR hijacked my blog this afternoon. (Reference the post below) I used his lap to do a few things and forgot to log out when I was done. While I do agree he is a pretty stinkin sweet individual, I am not completely fond of his musical choices.........at all!

I am sorry for any stress or inconvenience that this slight mishap may have caused.

Nate is so Cool

Do you know our pastor Nate Elarton.  He is my best friend.  He is so cool.  I love his music, clothes, even his sweet hair style.  He plays bass so smooth, even with a broken wrist.  Nate just plain rocks. I love his Keith Green music too. Thanks Nate for being you.

Risky Buisness

Motivation to Lead PT. 4 Desire to Serve

Ah yes... you knew it was coming, the always present idea of being a servant. I want to be careful how I communicate this because I struggle with this all the time.(that was my one and only vulnerable moment in this post) The whole idea of leadership is tricky. It lends it's self to be viewed as an avenue to be served. The truth of it is that if you are going to be a good leader this is the farthest thing from a true definition you can find. I have to quote Jesus, "The Son of man did not come to be served but to serve". Jesus is the perfect model of true leadership. It is servantship(I think I just made that up...but I think I like it) I loved the book "Lead like Jesus" by Ken Blanchard it is a must read, Ken lays this whole deal out really nice. If you can't serve you should never, ever, ever be served it will create a prideful heart that cancels out everything you do.

You have problems if:

- You love your official title and use it often

- Make leadership decisions on how they effect you first

- If you find yourself reminding people that you are the boss

- If you feel threatened by someone on the team that has a win

- If you get a funny little feeling of happy when your name is mentioned

- If one of you top concerns is how much money you make

- If you think that any Job in the organization is below your abilities

- If you find yourself being creative in discovering ways to boast of your greatness

When you have a true deep rooted desire to serve you will find that every act of service is energizing. The reason is that you realize whether there is a person standing in front of you while you serve or if you are in some little room scrubbing floors your act of serves has a ripple affect that goes far beyond anything you can see. You are changing lives with every simple act of service.....that is very motivating.

Motivation to Lead PT. 3 Passion

Passion is something that you can't fake, Have you ever noticed that? When someone tries to fake it the outcome is usually rage or a really, really, REALLY awkward moment. On the flip side of that is true passion the kind that comes from deep within you. The kind that doesn't have to me worked up, in fact many times you find youself trying to take a little off the top so you don't over power or intimidate people around you with your exuberance.(Never typed that word before, I feel smart)

So here is what I know about passion:

- You can't fake it

- It motivates faster than a words

- It is contagious like a the flu in a church nursery

- Passion breeds confidence in those around you

- Passion picks you up when you fail

- Passion brings focus

This is the real danger, the longer you do what you feel passionate to do the greater the possibility to lose the passion that once drove you and even began to think you can get along with out it. I don't think you can overstress the need to refuel the passion in your heart. If we are not careful we began to rely on ability alone and quickly run out of gas. We can continue to do the right things but seem to get the wrong results. It reminds me of a church that was addressed in revelation.

"To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: 
      These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lamp stands: 2I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked men, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. 3You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. 4Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love"

Stay Passionate!!!

 

Well I don't usually promo events on here but I'm pretty pumped about this one. We have started a little thing called DWELL here at BCC. It is a night of simple worship. There is no other agenda than to connect with a really big God that wants to impact our lives in a really big way. The theme is I WILL GO, we have a crummy definition for worship that confines it to a song. God's view on worship involves our whole life. So we wanted to focus on worship that involves going and doing just as much as sitting and being. the whole music thing just doesn't cut it unless of course you are in the opera and then it's not just singing it actually is what you do.....weird. Anyway if your in the area and want to stop by it's going to be grand. Friday October 24th 7pm at BCC, corner of Jackman and Temperance.
